| Recently the bolt on my AR won't stay locked back. It's almost like the catch isn't going high enough. Nothing looks broken or worn. What could cause this issue? Recently, I did get a AR57 upper. I also have used a .22LR coversion bolt. Do either of those two have a tendency to mess up the bolt catch? |

Out the gate, s the catch locking the bolt back via the face of the bolt to begin with?
When locking back, is this problem with a empty mag and you pulling the CH back by hand, or during live fire. If the former, the again, confirm that the catch is locking the bolt back via the face of the bolt, and wouldn't hurt to pull the mag and clean it if you suspect that the follower in the mag is pushing up the catch less than desired. If the later, time to pull the gas tube and maybe even the FSB as well. When shooting rim rifle ammo through the barrel, lead from the bullet gets scrapped off by the barrel gas port, and although the rifle is still stroking, the gas tube/FSB passage could be on the verge of being clogged out. |
| it may be pretty simple...whenever my wife would shoot my AR, she would lock the bolt back, then the slightest wiggle of the gun would send it home. turned out she just wasn't pulling the charging handle back all the way and the bolt would 'sort of' lock back without being fully locked to the rear. lock it back, then pull it back further and see if thats the problem. |
