I have a bolt/carrier setup that I want to use (it's been in storage for a while now) and I was just looking at the markings and noticed something...the carrier has the "C" mark for Colt, but the Bolt is marked with a MP (NOT MPC). It is stamped on the bolt head (stamped like you take a ice pick and "tap" dots until you make a letter).

What kind of bolt is it? I have other Colt bolts/carriers that are all marked with MPC so this one threw me off...

The odds are that it's a Viet Nam era contract bolt assy. both H&R and  GM, who built M16s during the Viet Nam fracas, used bolts so marked. Got one myself awhile back, along w/a bunch of MP C marked units, from an outfit selling off parts from torn down M16A1s.

Not to worry[:D]. It's every bit as good a piece as any of the MP C units, and a heck of a lot better finished off than most of the current commercial stuff.

Thanks for the info guys...

Yeah, the finish on it is very nice (nicer than the MPC one) and it's damn near new. The bolt face has very, very little wear (90% to 95% finish I'd say)
