Long story, but I put a free float handguard on 1 of my AR's today. No real issues during instalation. It went as well as I thought it would. I get everything done, and I go to put the bolt in, and it won't go in without a lot of effort. I try and try to get it to go. It finally goes, but won't cycle. I take it out and try again.....this went on for 30 minutes. So after exausting all of my options, I go and get my other AR, and take the bolt out of it, and put it in the AR I was having an issue with. It slides right in without any problems. I take the troubled bolt and put it in my other AR without any problems. Take both rifles down to the woods with the switched out bolts, and they both shoot fine. Anyone got any answers to why the bolt would not go into the rifle it came out of? |

It sounds like a re-torque issue. The barrel is probably in a slightly different place than original. And, since the bolt had worn the old way, it is being stubborn. You might be able to fix it (don't see a need since they both function) by loosening the barrel again, using a strap wrench to hold the barrel to the left while re-torquing. If that doesn't work, try the other way with the barrel. I'm sure it is just a slight relocation is all it needs. |
