| Everyone did a great job answering my question on the bolt spring. Now I am wondering , why is there no gas rings on the bolt in my piston upper? Can i use the bolt spring and no gas rings in my di gun? |

They turn the bolt into a piston which is powered by the gas discharge from the barrel port ,down the gas tube and into the carrier . If you go on Adams Arms site they have a video showing the two systems. DI and Piston. |

Just to add, if you remove the gas rings from a DI gun, the pressure of the gas will leak around the bolt, not leaving enough force to cycle the bolt carrier group. The piston guns do not need them because they are using mechanical force to cycle the BCG, not gas pressure. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

The rings are piston rings. The bolt is a piston, the carrier the cylinder. My LWRC bolts all have rings. LWRC says they help center the bolt in the carrier. All I know is they run fine. –– Chuck So I imagine these rings need lube? My LMT has no gas rings. |

You should be lubricating the entire bolt. It's a moving part. Even if it's flopping around with no rings. 
–– Chuck I do just no were near as much as I do with my DI upper. I drop 2 drops of lube in the holes in the carrier every third mag to lube the rings on it.. Is that about what the LWRC and others need to keep running smooth? |

Is that about what the LWRC and others need to keep running smooth? you def dont need that much lube. heck on my DI i put 2 drops of lube on the cam pin and two on the gas rings and that lasts me a good 600-700 rounds. in a piston 2 drops should last you a few thousand |
