Should I buy this tool? http://www.catm4.com/
Or should I buy this one? http://www.magna-matic.com/crt/ Or should I stop worrying about having a BCG that you can eat from the inside of? I anticipate your replies! |

I anticipate your replies! Waste of money IMO, and yeah i doesn't have to be spotless, but many swear by "'QUIB's" CLP/OMS solution, I have yet to try it myself. It used to be tacked at the top of this forum, but it's not there now and neither is the rest of his stuff. |

I'm glad you said as much - I'd read about the Quib post but I'll be danged if I can find it. It appears that he has removed all of his tacked threads today as result of some disrespect and insults he received in a thread in the tech discussions. It's a real shame because QUIB is very resourceful, I've learned quite a bit from him, let's just hope his absence is only temporary. |

I like quib, he is one of the smartest guys here, he needs to not let this stuff bug him so much. |

I have one of the catm4 tools and it works better than anything else I've tried for cleaning out the inside of the BC. As far as cleaning the bolt itself, it will knock off the big pieces, but I've found that the bolt doesn't need anything fancy to clean it off.
I haven't tried the other one, tho it looks like it ought to work OK. Either one will make the nasty job of cleaning out the inside of the BC easier - and you really do want to keep that part at least moderately clean (and I've found that the cleaner you keep it, the easier it is to clean the next time). |

All great ideas and they're appreciated. I've never worried about the tail but getting the inside of that bugger is tough!
I'm not sure how a GI toothbrush would work, but maybe I'm using it wrong
Never knew Quib, but I've been on other forums where someone goes after another poster, the fur flies and unfortunately someone leaves to the detriment of all. |

Anyway, to answer the question: if the fouling gets really heavy, just give it a soak in some Slip 2000 carbon killer, wipe it off, re-lube and call it good. |

Well for the inside of the bolt carrier, I use a nylon .40 bore brush. The little bit that builts on the face of the back of the carrier, I will soak the carrier in breakfree for awhile, twist up a paper towl and clean it as best as I can. I dont think it hurts anything. |

Put some CLP or your favorite cleaner on the bolt and let it sit. Use the little end to clean under the extractor and inside the bolt carrier. Scrub the rest of the bolt with the big end of the tooth brush. Like someone else stated you can use Carbon Cutter for heavy deposits or the neck of a brass case to get big chunks off the bolt tail. Sometimes the $3 toothbrush is still better than the $30 tool of the week. |

I see what you mean now. When I wrote that I was thinking more about how a brush would scour the cylindrical wall of the interior of the carrier. It seemed like the tools would actually scrape the circular end of the "tube."
And I've never worried much about the tail of the bolt, but if I was buying a tool to clean inside I figured the outside might as well be clean too! |
