This is my very first build and I'm running into a problem.
My bolt is getting stuck only when I'm feeding rounds. Its smooth as silk with no mag. Ive taken the gas tube off and it's still getting stuck when I have a mag in. I'm assuming it's the barrel at this point? The barrel is made my a company call "Davison Defense" which I'm assuming is a cheap knock off, This is my only barrel and I'm not sure what to do at this point. |

Was the extension on the barrel loose when you installed it? Have you lubricated everything, have you taken the barrel back off to double check the installation was done correctly.
When the bolt is sticking, is it going into full battery, or sticking before it actually engages the barrel extension? Have you tried to fire a single shot through it yet to check function? Is it sticking when you chamber a round, or just trying to cycle? New guns are tight and often times have to be shot, after you complete a function check to loosen things up and let them get married to each other.. I have friends that have Davidson barrels and have not problems at all, once you get the gun broke in. I have never heard of Davison, but I have heard of Davidson Defense. |

Davidson Defense is what I meant.
I do not recall the extension on the barrel being loose, everything seemed tight. I have not taken the barrel back off yet. To be honest im not sure what id be looking for to make sure the barrel was put on properly. I know the key was lined up with the slot and the barrel nut was tightened to the correct spec. I have not fired a single shot yet. I was just checking to make sure it Could cycle ammo properly first. I have lubed everything. Should I lube the extension where the bolt meets it? |

Sounds like you might have a tight chamber the feed ramps don't look like the problem, I would clean the bore real good, then take it out and run a round through it and see what happens, clean real good, then start running some rounds through it. and see how things start wearing in together.
I would run it very wet to start off with and if I had to I would lube after each shot to begin with. |

Sounded like the bolt would get locked up in the barrel WHEN YOU HAVE A ROUND IN THE CHAMBER, is this correct? Smooth with NO MAG meaning not chambering a round? 556 round in a 223 chamber? Need a little more to help us understand the issue. If the above are correct, then you might have an issue with barrel chambering. |

When I say stuck, I mean I have to use two hands on the charging handle and pull as hard as I can to get it free. That only happens when there is a round chambered. When there is no round in the chamber, it never gets stuck.
I noticed last night that if I only pull the BCG back half way it doesn't get stuck but if I let the BCG go from all the way back that extra speed jams it up. I'm using a PSA BCG and the barrel is a Davidson defense 5.56 barrel. I'm also using 5.56 ammo. I'm assuming I'd have more of an issue if I tried .223 since it's a bit bigger in diameter. I'm sorry if any of that doesn't make sense. This is my very first time building or even handling a AR. Thanks for all the help. |

The difference occurs when it is fired. I think you simply have an ammo problem. Try another brand. If it does it with other ammo, you likely have an out of spec chamber. |

From this description it would seem like you may have an obstruction in the barrel. When you release the bold does it fully chamber the round or does the round bind up / the bolt not fully come forward? Even a piece of brash shaving could cause a bind up between the barrel and the bullet casing. The most interesting thing to me would be weather or not the bolt comes forward all the way with a bullet in the chamber. |

Your feed ramps are not a problem. And the copper streaks on them are just part of the break in process.
I agree that you should try different ammo. And CLEAN that chamber! There's enough gunk visible in your picture to slow things down. Clean the bolt too. At least it wasn't terribly dry, but make sure it's a lot better lubed while you're at it. A new gun needs plenty of lube to break in. |
