Howdy gents,

New to the site, been shooting civvie AR's for a couple of years but not new to the M16 or M4. I don't claim to be a technical wizard with all the parts & specs but have been using the M16/AR family for quite a few years & have never had a bolt fail to lock back. I have a new LMT 14.5 upper with Bravo Co. auto bolt carrier group. I installed an Enidine carbine buffer & the bolt group would not lock to the rear after the last round was fired. I'm using the standard carbine spring that came with the SOPMOD stock kit & 30rd Pmags. I was shooting a mix of 55gr FMJ Federal XM193 5.56 brown & black box, Remington green box .223 (surprisingly, not one issue with 200 rounds of this cheap stuff) & AE .223 & no lock backs with any of them. I didn't try changing to different buffers but the other Enidines I've just installed in my other rifles (SBR's included) don't have this problem. Not a huge deal as the LMT functions just fine otherwise, as expected, but I would like the bolt to lock back as I've always known it to do.

Could it be the spring or heavy bolt carrier affecting this? I use the same ammo, mags & other similar parts in all of my other carbines.

BTW, kudos to LMT. This 14.5 is a fine carbine in every way & more accurate than I expected. Thanks in advance for any suggestions or advice.

Stay alert, stay alive fellas.

Is your buffer spring used with the Enidine a little on the long side?

You might compare it to your other carbine buffer springs. If one is shorter that the others, swap it out on the problem rifle and see if that clears up the issue.

I have the same problem using the Endine buffer bolt won't lock back along with feeding problems.

And I can't get in touch with Endine and Brownell's who sold it to me won't answer my request for any help. I stick the Std buffers back in both my S&W and LM&T carbine 16" ARs and all is good again. Guess the Endine buffer was a mistake.

Ahhhh. Ya know, I didn't think to check. I assumed since it came from LMT that it would be ok. XX rule of Murphy is never to assume anything & call it good. hing
Thanks Quib.

I bought a bunch from Brownell's too. These things have been great in my other carbines except this one. But like Quib implied, it could be a long spring issue. If it's not a spring issue I guess I'll have no recourse but to change back to the H or H2 buffer & see what that does for me.

I hope you're able to get your issue resolved.

It's just that Brownll's is not answering my questions that makes me not happy with them. I also have bought a lot of stuff from them even with their higher then other sites prices.

No problem.

Hope that does fix the issue. And welcome to ARFCOM.

Thanks Quib. Glad to be here.

You really called the ball on this one. The buffer spring is almost 1/2 an inch too long (can't understand why that is) when compared to my other four which are the same length & function with no problems. I'll be swapping springs & tossing the long one in the trash. Thanks again!

Good deal, glad to help. I hope that’s the fix to the problem.

I wouldn’t toss that spring out just yet. There are MIN/MAX measurements for carbine and rifle buffer springs. Your spring that doesn’t function well with the aftermarket hyd buffer, might meet the inspection criteria and be suitable for use in other weapons.
