So took new upper to the range (FN CHF CL PSA midlength with AIM NiB BCG)
and first round, click.
stripped mag
checked chamber, out of battery
let the gun sit for a min downrange, nothing
could not force BCG over case with forward assist, could not run BCG rear

Fast forward.

Bring gun home, clear jam and notice this:

Notice that the ejector doesn't move essentially AT ALL. Ran a handful of dummy rounds through it, damaged them all with the same problem. Stripped the bolt and snapped this:
Is this the right spring? Or do I need to trim it?

The spring looks correct. Why don't you contact AIM Surplus and see what help they will extend with the bolt. Shortening the spring is a bad idea.

Spring does look correct.  Possibly the ejector channel wasn't milled/drilled deep enough to allow proper compression.  Pretty easy to check if you had a known good bolt on hand.

Switch the spring with the spring that your safety detent uses; they are the same spring. When I purchased my RCA bcg about 1-1/2 years ago, the spring they were using had too much spring tension that I had experienced similar results as yours. I switched it out with a Tactical Springs (Sprinco) Enhanced AR-15 Ejector Spring Part# 27001.

With it assembled (ejector spring, ejector, and roll pin), have you compressed the ejector with a punch to see if it will compress all the way into the bolt-face?

yeas, and I wasn't able to. It took two more hands to put the pin back in because it required putting a ton of pressure against it, just to get the pin to find the index cut in the ejector.

Bryan has already emailed me and says he is getting a spring in the mail. We will see if that's the prob first
