My Stag/Colt SBR has developed an issue. While the bolt locks back properly on an empty mag the bolt release is extremely stiff to operate. I literally HAVE to slap it, whereas before a 'push' was sufficient. It is stiff to the point that it cannot be pushed. With the upper receiver detached, the bolt release has full and easy range of motion. It's only stiff with the bolt locked back. It is oiled properly, and I've tried a little Tetra grease. Any thoughts/suggestions? |

Check the face of the release for a bur, Then raises the catch all the way up, put pressure against the face of the release forward, and try to lower the catch (read may have a inner bur on the catch you didn't remove, and now the bur has imbedded into the inner receiver channel and causing the problem. Either way, a little stoning should resolve the problem, even if you need to take the catch back out to correct. |
| Heh, the very first CMT bolt catch I received was bent. This one was straight, at least it was when I installed it. I'll need to find a roll pin punch so I can get the catch out. I do see some gouging on the back where the bolt hits it. It also has some scratches along the top. (I'd asked about this scratching a few months ago and was told it may be poor heat treating.) |
