Along with all the great threads on optics here on Arfcom. I think it would be highly informative to post the scopes that both PASS or FAIL the "Box test" for repeatability along with the test target(s) used for  visual examination.

Since there is no "Standard" for a box test, I propose that a target similar to this be used at 100yds..

This target can be downloaded for free in .pdf format at www.reloadbench.com

Box test procedure.

To eliminate as much "shooter bias" as possible, it is recommended that the test be shot using a front rest and a rear bag.

1) A few sight-in shots are made at the center box.

For the remainder of the box test the POA will ALWAYS be the lower left box of the 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper.

2) 2 shots are made in the lower left box of the paper using the sight in settings.

3) The elevation turret is adjusted up the estimated number of mils or MOA required to place 2 shots at or near the upper left box of the paper.target. (Remember the click count)

4) Next the windage is adjusted the required number of clicks to place 2 shots in the upper right box of the paper (remember this click count as well).

5) Then the elevation is turned back down the same number of clicks as used in step #3 and two shots are fired.

6) Finally, the windage is turned back the same number of click as in #4.and the final two shots are made.

In a perfect world (let me know if you find one) you will have 4 closely grouped shots in the lower left of the target and 2 closely grouped shots in the other three corners. The reults of the box test should then be uploaded to Arfcom so we can have a better idea where to spend our optics money.

Since Pass and Fail are some what subjective,  it can be left up to the individual as to weither or not the scope is reliable enugh for their needs. .
