What parts of a gun are safe to use brake cleaner to get out all the nasty stuff? i.e. bolt, chamber, action, reciever I have been using gun degreaser but have changed to brake cleaner because it's a heck of a lot cheaper. |
| I use it on the chamber, the bolt and bolt carrier, and any spots that need a good blast of solvent. Just use a good oil like FP10 or similar to replace all the oils in the metal and there's nothing to worry about. Most gun degreasers are harsher than brake cleaner. |

SOME brake cleaner will attack SOME plastics and wood finishes. CRC is slower evaporating and less prone to attack stuff. The fast evaporating product that contains toluene is a very powerful solvent and can attack plastic & wood finishes. I use a lot of it with good results. |

Exactly what brake cleaner do you all use? I'm not a "car guy" unlike a lot of you I'm sure. I was glancing at the shelves at walmart and I didn't see anything specifically labeled "brake cleaner." Saw plenty of carb cleaner in aerosol cans for practically nothing. Is brake cleaner in an aerosol or a hand pump usually? |

The can will say "Brake Cleaner" on it, or just ask the guy behind the counter. |
