Break-Free Bore Foam does a great job cleaning out powder and copper residue.  However, I learned the other day its like 50% water!  This concerns me because I am sure some of it migrates into the gas port where I cannot clean it out.  Hopefully it hasn't caused any rust there.

In the future, I guess I can blow out the gas port with compressed air.

Live and learn....

Why do you think it's 50% water?

Find the MSDS for the product; it lists the active ingredients and their relative percentages.

Copper solvents contain ammonia, so they use water as a carrier.  If you read the instructions, you will notice that you're not supposed to leave the FBC in the bore for more than 10-20 minutes.  Just give it a normal cleaning/lube after the FBC and you'll be fine.

Use Bore Tech Eliminator.  GREAT stuff.

Use brake parts cleaner to blow out the gas tube and you'll be fine.

We have gone through this MANY times before. BF FBC is perfectly safe to use on your AR.

When BF FBC first hit the shelves, I had concerns myself. Having personally been in contact through email with an engineer from BF, and having used the FBC for years, I can report to you with total confidence, that BF FBC will not harm your weapon.

I have no concerns about it harming the weapon, only about some of it (with water) getting into the gas block area where I can't get to it.

Does anyone make a really long pipe cleaner for swabing out the gas tube??

BTW, I called Break-Free too and according to the MSDS, it does not contain ammonia.

Give the gas tube a shot of BF Powder Blast of non-chlorinated brake cleaner and you'll be good to go.

Exactly.

If you read through this forum you’ll see me mention this over and over.

Check your local craft store –– they have a bunch of useful stuff.

I bought a bag of AR15/M16 gas tube pipe cleaners from Brownell's a long time ago. They are made just for that job.

Wipe Out actually seems to do a better job than the BF FBC. Can't imagine that either product will cause rust or corrosion. Spraying out residue with brake cleaner after patching the barrel should alleviate all your concerns.
