I just took my FCG out for a good cleaning, and noticed the hammer J Spring was broken.  Can these be replaced without buying a new hammer?  Is it safe to fire without a J Spring?  I have been shooting for many years and this is the first time I have ever seen this.  I found the broken piece in the bottom of the action.

DPMS has the J spring. Its 40 cents. Be sure to install correctly.

I would not continue shooting with a broken J spring, your hammer pin will walk out of the receiver.

Thanks

I have looked for the spring in numerous places, and no one else seemed to have them

yeah the spring is smashed/flattened in the middle once it's inserted into the hammer to keep it from backing out.  not sure how easy that is to do at home w/o breaking the spring.

Walk in the park,

Use two punches,
one on the bottom being back up, and another on the top to strike the spring.  A few taps, then flip the hammer over and do the other side of the spring.

Thanks for the info, I probably dont even need the spring since its being used with a set of KNS Pins on a 9mm carbine, and the hammer pin cant walk out.  However, I cant stand knowing their is a missing piece.  I have a spare hammer, but I think I will try to install the J Spring,  I did notice it was flattened inside the little hole in the hammer.
