I bought a 9mm AR build from Spike's Tactical in Florida.  I sold the upper off as I purchased an LRM M169 suppressed upper to go with the lower.  I shot the original build without issue a couple of times, by that I mean two different range trips with 200 rounds at the most.  After the NFA forms got approved and tranfers done I took the new configuration out to it's first range trip with the LRM upper.  It functioned for at least 100 rounds without issue.  I got home and a couple of days later decided to do some light cleaning when I noticed that the hammer is being held skewed in the lower as half of the hammer pin is missing and it is being held by only the other half.  The LPK is DPMS so the hammer is the correct rounded hammer but not a dedicated 9mm hammer.  The bolt is ramped as this came that way with the LRM upper.  The only component that I think might be causing undo stress to the hammer pin is the buffer and  I am unsure what buffer it is.  I imagine that it is intended for 9mm because it has otherwise functioned well and came with a 9mm build  but can't identify it otherwise as there are no markings.  Below is a picture of it in case someone can identify it.  My first question is should I change this buffer out and if so to what?  Second question is their a better (stronger) hammer pin I should use?  Last will making the lower dedicated to 9mm and using a specific 9mm hammer improve the situation.  I prefer to stick with the DPMS hammer so I can occasionaly shoot 5.56 with the same SBR'd lower.  Any other advice would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

had the same thing happen to me a few months ago, i ended up getting a set of KNS anti walk pins and sent my bolt to MGP to have it ramped, so far so good, i'm pretty sure that's just a regular 5.56 buffer you have pictured, you may want to pick up a 9mm buffer and then get ahold of MGP about the ramping, search a few pages back for a thread titled "bolt ramping" by me, there's alot of good info in there

Thanks xd-shawn.  If you read closely, my bolt is ramped already.  I thought about the KNS pins but I suspect the buffer is probably more of my problem.

Yes you have a buffer issue.  You need at a minimum the Colt 9mm buffer or perhaps the Qbuffer.

Broken hammer pins, and even broken hammers are a way of life with the 9mm guns.  Even with the Colt ones.  You are also going to have a messed up dissconector in about 500 rounds.

After working on Colt SMG's for the last year Ive decided that I do not want one.

I ordered a 9Q Buffer from Slash just a few moments ago.  I hope that will solve my issue so it does not happen again.  Thanks for the input.
