| Finally got my Magpul trigger guard and when I was putting it on I broke the lower. I even used a wood block to support the damn thing but I guess I hit it wrong and snapped the other side off where the roller pin goes. Man am i pissed now. |

Quoted:
Hit it with a TIG welder and touch it up with some aluma-black. There ought to be a shop around you somewhere that does welding, I would think they could fix it pretty cheap. Matt 7075 has poor weldability. http://www.alcoa.com/gcfp/catalog/pdf/alcoa_alloy_7075.pdf Use some sort of epoxy and a MagPul MIAD with front strap. |

I like to use Craftsman "robogrip" pliers for installing the rollpins (wrap the jaws in electrical tape so you don't mar the finnish). The jaws stay parallel compared to regular channel locks, and using pliers will apply smooth steady pressure instead of the impacts involved with a punch and hammer. Much more controlled evolution that way and less chance of screwing something up.
As to welding the tab back on, as already stated 7024 doesn't like to be welded. Even if the reciever was 6061, keeping things lined up is going to be a pain in the neck, definatly not a beginners type weld job. |
| The next receiver I build will have the integral trigger guard. link |
| As someone who welds AL every day...it would be easier to just reconsrtuct the broken ear and re drill rather than trying to weld the broken piece back on. If you are in GA bring it by my shop and we'll give it a shot. Also the anodizing will have to be removed from the area as it will make welding almost impossible. |

Seriously though, why couldn't it be welded then refinished?
