A friend of mine has a broken buffer detent in his Bushy AR. I told him I'd replace it for him, he could do it just doesn't have the right tools. But I was just wondering how common it is for that part to break. He said he was shooting it in PA one day and when went to field strip it the buffer and spring shot out when he opened it up.

Is there something else that could be wrong for that to just break or just a bad/defected part??

Considering that the buffer should never contact the retaining pin when the upper is locked closed, is there there signs on the front edges of the buffer that it's making contact with the retaining pin during cycle (#1 in the below photo)?

If he has a telestock it may be installed incorrectly and not holding the pin in.

Yeah I'll have to check it out when I get my hands on it.
