OK, going to build an AR, but price is a huge factor.  Really looking for a bargain here, something in the M4gery range of 550-600 complete.  (I already have optics & mags from another deal)

What are my best sources for cheap parts?
What parts should I get in order to get the best value for my build?

Check out Del-Ton for a kit. Then pick up a lower for around $100 bucks and you are set. Their M4 kit is $485 I would spend the extra $45 and get the chrome lined barrel. So if you figure $100 for the lower plus $530 for the Del-Ton kit with the chrome lined barrel you are looking at $630. Not bad for a complete, new rifle

Yeah go for the chrome lined barrel for sure.. It is worth the extra 100 bucks by far.. There are really not much AR's out there that do not have it but still just make sure you get it..

I'd argue the other direction that chrome lining is not needed you're not firing full auto, nor using corrosive ammo.  Chrome lining will make it easier to clean but I doubt you'll ever "shoot out" a non chrome lined barrel AR.

Chrome moly barrels are fine.

From my perspective if you want the cheapest kit on the market it's Blackthorne but please see my review of their kit to make a decision on if you want to deal with that.

If Fire for Effect still has the blem CMMG kits with the free Caveman add on for $500 that's the best overall deal on a kit out there.

If you want to build a $500 rifle Blackthorne will get you there $419 delivered for an M4 kit plus the lower.

If you want a $600 rilfe the FFE kit will get you there.

It's all in where you want to be in te range you specified 500-600

the cheapest i would go is Delton or M1S...

Stag also makes a nice kit...

i would avoid Blackthorne like the plague... they are CHEAP... but not quality by anyones standard...

I see delton has a 1 to two week wait on shipping, also if you would like the A-2 upper it is 10 more.  I found another place to get almost the same deal at AR15-kits.com and there are options there as well.

I feel like we answer this question every week, but I love the new interest in the AR.....

OK, once again......

Superior Arms Lower $96 shipped from gunbroker.com Superior is the ONLY one I can find with an adjustable trigger.
Delton Kit for $465, yes. 485 if you want the M4 look. 5% discount for LEO.
$53 bucks for rear flip up sight Sportsmansguide.com

That is about 600 for the rifle. I have never built one until this one.
It was my first. It took me 90 minutes.
This now has over 1000 rounds of Remington UMC ammo without one malfunction.

Call Kent, He isnt a huge fan of  his website,  He gets too busy getting kits out to update it all the time.. I have gotten over 12 kits from him ranging from the 16" .556 to the9MM 16" to the 20 bull barrel and all were top shelf , shoot great and are agreat value.   any issues I have had Kent has taken care of it with out a seceond thought.

I've only seen two model 1 kit guns in action, but neither worked and I think both needed to be rebarrelled. Not exactly a representative sampling, but still.

J&T and Del Ton seem to have the least complaints out of the kit gun companies.

For a super cheapie AR I'd gamble on skipping the chrome lining
