I am trying to trouble shoot an issue and was wondering if anyone here can offer some advice. Here is the situation

Double star charging handle
AIM surplus NiB BCG
Spikes ST-T2 Buffer
DSA buffer tube kit

I install everything via a youtube video. I very lightly lubed the bcg, buffer, and spring with CLP. I cycled the gun a few times and heard a weird sound. Upon inspection the buffer had released over the stop (bent the spring and released the stopper from its spot)

I replaced the buffer stopper with another spring and same thing. I don't have the time or patience to keep buying little springs and breaking them. I know dry firing is not good for a gun but how can it screw up that badly after two cycles?

You need to make one more full revolution on the buffer tube.  The buffer tube should cover the buffer tube retainer holding it in place.

I found this was exactly my issue. Now I am confused because if I get the buffer tube sitting over the retainer There is no way I can get the long ass spring into the back for fit behind the plate. Any suggestions there

The spring will "ratchet" over the buffer detent, and the buffer itself has 3 flat spots on the outside so you can slide it over the buffer detent.

Dry firing is not bad for the gun. Think about it a gun is basically a controlled explosion the explosion from the bullet is far worse than anything you can do to the gun as far as dry firing. The only time you don't want to dry fire is when you have the lower separated from the upper.

Make sure you have the buffer on the spring when trying to push it back into the buffer tube. It will push right over the retainer pin.

You can also depress the retainer if you want.  Once the buffer is in place rotate it to where the 'meaty' part of the buffer is oriented toward the retainer (only applies to a buffer that does not have a round end).
