I have been having some short stroking problems.  Gas Key is torqued and staked.  I am thinking it may be a buffer and buffer spring problem.  The stock is a RRA Operator kit with commercial spec parts.  The spring is 10.75 to 11 inches long.  How can I identify what buffer tube is in it?  I did not see any markings on it at first glance.  The RRA site says it is a CAR buffer.

This is a M4gry with a Sabre lower with RRA LPK and Magpul MIAD.  The upper is a PK Firearms M4 upper built on a DD barrel.

Thanks in advance for the help and if you need any more info/pictures please let me know.

What ammo? How much lube?

BCG is wet.  Basically spray it with CLP and then "flick" it a couple of times to remove excess.  Short strokes with .223 ammo and some reloads (25.5gr W748, 55gr FMJ, CCI 400).  26gr of W748 helped a little but still got FTF's.  2 mags of M855 had one FTF.  Gun ran fine for about 500 rounds before this started.  At first I thought it was the primers but the reloading forum convinced me otherwise.

If
it ran fine for 500 rounds, I would suspect that the buffer and spring type are not the source of your current issues.

It's hard to get lighter than the carbine buffer, short of taking the weight out of it. And it's not like the buffer spring got stronger overnight.

Good point.  I guess I will do a closer inspection of the gas key.  I was considering getting a BCM BCG as a Christmas present to myself anyway so I may do that and re-torque and stake the one I have.  Will need another BCG soon anyway as I plan on building a Kiss Mid-Length early next year anyway...........

Only other thing I can think of is I changed the charging handle from a standard CH to the BCM Gunfighter recently.  Don't think this could cause the problem though.

Could be if the carrier is dragging down it.

Drop in the old CH and see if that solves the problem.

And see if there is any "odd" wear on the BCM charging handle.

My guess would be at the very front of the handle, but maybe inside the "slot" for the gas key as well.
