Forgive me, I am new to ARs.

I purchased my first AR, an LMT M4, about a month ago and finally got to shoot it last week. I stripped it down and cleaned it then broke the stock nut loose and put on my TAG single point sling mount on. Obviously I had to remove the buffer tube and spring and all that stuff. Now my buffer retainer won't keep the buffer and spring from coming out of the buffer tube. The retainer and spring both seem normal to me but I am not well versed in the AR platform so I would appreciate any advise without having to take the thing to a gunsmith for something so stupid that is probably simple.

When you screwed the buffer tube back in does it go far enough to cover the back half of the buffer retaining pin?

Just a quick guess but the sling mount might be interfering with how far the buffer tube screws back in and that's why it's not holding it in.

Back off the lock ring/receiver extension nut  and TAG end plate. Try threading the extention/buffer tube back in so it will engage the buffer detent. Don't forget about the takedown pin spring!

As I thought, it was something simple. I found I had not completely screwed the buffer tube in and it was allowing the retainer to pop all the way out. Thanks for the link and suggestions it helped out a lot.

I will continue to read up on the mass of material on here and hopefully will be able to fix my own problems soon.
