I just finished a rebuild. All Colt parts but for the Bushmaster lower. I went from a fixed stock to Colt M4. My new buffer is marked H1. I'm wondering if its too heavy a buffer. I shot Remington frangible ammo with it last week and was getting short stroking from time-to-time. I'm using a new Colt M16 carrier in a new Colt upper, new Colt 16" M4 profile barrel.
Either the parts need to wear in; or the ammo was a little "soft"; or my buffer may be a little heavy. I intend to try it with 55 grain real ammo to see what that does. Any opinions? |

You answered your own question. Run the heaviest buffer that will allow your rifle to function 100% with the widest range of ammo you plan to use. The Colt barrel gasport is the correct size for a carbine and not over sized like many others. A H buffer is the norm for a M16 carrier/Colt barrel. |
