First, I am new to this sight as you can you see(2nd post.) Hello and I would appreciate any input or experiences thank you.

With a 16" barrel and a carbine length gas system, which buffer would be best standard, h1(found on m4) or h2(believe on m4a1). Currently I am assembling a lower for a Bushmaster 16" carbine upper.  I am not trying to reinvent the wheel, but would like to get it right the first time. BTW, I have already "o-ringed" the extractor. I understand that the ideal method is an adjustable gas system or changing to a mid-length set-up. Simply put I am trying to find the most reliable set-up right now, later I will likely change to a mid-length.

if your CAR is running fine now, esp w/ the std buffer and no o-ring, then they are not needed

h/w, if you want a little smoother operation, then yea, you can try a H or H2 buffer (i'd only stick w/ the H) in your AR and see how it works

the O-ring, while it can be beneficial, is not necessary, but if it works w/ it in, then keep it

CARs can just be as reliable as Middys or rifles...take care of it and it will take care of you

If you already have a buffer leave it.  If not get a 9mm buffer.

When I fired the Bushmaster on another lower(than the one I'm building) it was noticiablely different compared to my Rock River mid-length. It launches spent casings, generally seems like it cycles faster especially when firing milsurp. I was thinking it was overgassed, and I assume to address that would be some alteration/replacement to the gas system or alteration to the gas ports.  If I wasn't building another lower, I would probably just go with the standard buffer, but since I'm gonna buy one anyways its only about $12 more for a H buffer. The use of the heavier buffer I would imagine is to alleviate the faster cycling without really modifying the gas system.

I should have wrote this initially, is it a common replacement using a h,h1 or 9mm buffer on a carbine ? Have people found it to be reliable ?  I know the military uses a heavy buffer on the 3 round burst m4, and a heavier one on the fullauto m4a1. I imagine they use the heavier ones since they are auto firing with a shorter barrel and gas system. I know I'm probably splitting hairs here, but what the possible positives and negatives could be from using a heavier buffer on a semi-auto ar 15 ? Thanx for helping an anal newbie to ar15.com.
