I've currently got a S&W M&P lower with an A2 buttstock.  The upper is a 20" barrel with free float aluminum tube.  The gun functions flawlessly.  Now, I will be selling the upper and replacing it with either 16" medium length or carbine length upper half.  Will I have to change out the buffer spring for the different barrel length and gas tube positions?

Not likely if you keep the a2 buttstock.

Receiver extension and buffer are unique to the choice of stock, (rifle vs. carbine) not the upper configuration.

No you will not need to change the buffer or spring.

An A2 buttstock will always use a rifle buffer and spring refardless of barrel lenfth.

Thanks, folks.  Just what I was hoping.
