I want to run a carbine upper with a standard length buffer tube and buffer spring (A1/A2 configuration). Can I use a standard buffer spring and buffer assembly with this set up?

The buffer and spring have nothing to do with which upper you use.
If you have a A1/A2 stock, you use a rifle spring and buffer.
If you have a collapsable stock, you use the carbine spring and which ever carbine buffer you're gun runs well with.
