How do the different weight buffer tubes affect the firing of an AR? What is the difference in the buffer tubes between a 16" barreled AR or Carbine and the longer 18 and 20" barreled rifles?
Thanks |

Buffer tubes aren't weighted. The Buffers are. You have A2/rifle extensions, asjustable stock buffer tubes and VLTOR A5 adjustable stock buffer tubes. Each type tube takes a different length buffer. You need the right buffer for the right stock system.
Buffer Weights Standard Rifle - 5.2oz Standard Carbine - 2.9 - 3.0oz H - 3.8oz Spikes ST-T2 - 4.3oz H2 - 4.6oz H3 - 5.4oz Colt 9mm - 5.5oz RRA 9mm - 5.6oz |

Bolt closed, drop a rod down the barrel, mark where the rod comes out of the barrel. That is your length. This is done without a muzzle device, unless the muzzle device is pinned or soldered in place.
This length must be in excess of 16" or it's regulated under the NFA National Firearms Act. Requires filing of a Form 1 and payment of $200 for registration of the weapon on the ATF's National Firearms Registry |
