I am starting to order parts for my first AR-15 build and I need some help on which buffer weight to buy. This will be a 10.5" SBR with a PWS MK110 upper. I understand I may need to adjust my buffer weight depending on performance once its all together I just need a good starting point.

H?
H2?
Standard Carbine?

The buffer that a complete MK110 comes with is their ST2 which is slightly heavier than an H2. So my guess is that the H2 would be good to start with.

Opinions?

If I was guessing I'd go CAR but I'd rather have an H and H2 on hand as well to see which it liked best.
ST2 has been reported to be between H and h2 in weight.

Start with the standard carbine and work from there depending on recoil/performance issues

+1...every set up can be different, so you'll prolly need to experiment with a few different weights to determine which one your AR likes best.

the ST2 (4.3oz avg) is NOT heavier than an H2 (4.5oz), and per spike's website it is loaded by volume, not weight, so it can vary slightly.

I've run H2's in everything from 10.5" up to 18" with no issues, but all of my uppers are DI with properly sized gas ports.

Thanks everyone. The ST2 being heavier than H2 came from the PWS website, but I see that it is the same as Spikes which is between H and H2. Looks like I might start with the standard carbine and go from there.

ST2 = Spikes = PSA = DD T2
All are the same part.

Stay away from that silly spikes nonsense.  Start with an H2

Standard CAR 2.9 oz.
H buffer is 3.8 oz.
H2 buffer is 4.6 oz.
Rifle buffer is 5.17 oz.
9mm buffer is 5.5 oz.
H3 buffer is 5.6 oz.
