I will use this AR for deer hunting only. Don't need input on accessories (unless there is a must have I need to know about).  I'm new to AR's but I'm sure I could piece one together. I'm big on quality and accuracy.  Price $1500 or less. Let me know if there is anything else you need to know

Edit: changed caliber to 6.8. I obviously need all the help I can get.

I'd check out Rainier Arms for the barrel. Rainier Arms has a Select Barrel and an Ultramatch Barrel. They carry other brands of barrels, but I've heard good things about the Rainier barrels and their prices are reasonable.

I assume you will want a forged upper & lower receiver with a $1500 budget. There are lots to choose from:

Thanks for your input. In your opinion, do I need to raise the price more than 1500? I don't want to regret not spending the extra thousand a year from now and have to buy another gun. But if the quality and accuracy will still be there in the 1500 range, I would like to stay there.

For a 6.8 hunting rig I would look at either AR Performance or Bison Armory.
That is their specialty.

Some of the other 6.8 offerings might be more fighting gun.

Visit the 68forums for all the current 6.8 info.

I was going to do the same thing as you, build my 6.8 for deer and hog hunting.  Well,
due to an illness I decided to buy a RRA 6.8 upper.  I have been very pleased with the performance
and accuracy of that upper.  The only thing is that I had a flat top version with standard handles.
I have since added the YHM two piece pic handguards.  If I had the chance to do
it all over.  I would go the same route as I did any day.

I would build one.

I think my best AR hunting rifle was a 6.8 spc that weighed 6# 4oz with a scope on a Cav arms lower
with a 16" light weight cardinal barrel. That was with a muzzle brake, normal FA upper and a dednutz freedom reaper mount.

This is what I would do...
Find a used CavII lower. They are not made any more.
I found one with a Timmy skeletonized trigger for $250 about 6 months ago.
Snagged it but I am not using it for a 6.8.

Get a DPMS slab side upper with no forward assist that is if you can deal with no FA.
They go on sale at midway every now and then.

16" lightweight Bison barrel.
Clark or other carbon fiber handguard.
Cut down gas block.
No flash hider, thread protector only. At least thats how I prefer my rifles.
Light weight rings like Talley etc.
Leupold ultralight scope, although the normal 2-7X VX1 is very light.

That should put you at about 6# or so.
Very light gun and perfect for carry.
Perfect truck gun length.
Perfect length for a 4x4 box stand as you dont have so much of a chance to hit the end of the barrel banging around.
110 gr prohunters are a great deer bullet.

Just make sure you get the end of the barrel outside of the box stand if you dont have hearing protection on LOL
especially if you have a flash hider.

Go get a MEGA upper from Rainier and a Noveske Rogue Hunter 16" middie barrel with bolt or two to go with it.
Add any other parts your heart desires...

I'd go with a Mega lower just for continuity's sake

Well I have been looking at the same thing but for less money

Here is what I have found

Upper -

Bison BSP 1:7 twist Spec II barrel 16" + bolt and possibly bolt carrier

Upper receiver (pick you flavor whether it's billet, side charging, standard, etc....)

Low profile adjustable gas block

Free Float handguard (I lean towards the Midwest Industries version 2 13-15" or Troy 13-15" for light weight)

Muzzle device (this is totally up to you and your plans)

Lower

Lower receiver (pick your poison)

Fixed stock like Ace skelton, A2, New magpul Moe, or the one Stag sells

Trigger - I am going with either a CMC, Timney, or Geiselle (SP?) but pick your poison

Grip - I am going with Ergo Tactical Deluxe (I think that is what it is called, you usually see them on POF lowers)

LPK - Palmetto without FCG

Having said that I think the recommendation with the Cav Arms lower + match grade trigger is awesome but the grip on the lower doesn't fit me well

Hope this helps

Forgot to add

BCM gunfighter charging handle and new JP silent capture spring (just because you have the money)

i've got 4 6.8's and have built many more for others

barrel recommendation, ARP, Wilson or Bison, barrel length either 16 or 18"

Handguard, Troy TRX Extreme or Samson Evolution

Upper Receiver, doesn't matter, most are the same, but if you wanted to you could go with a Mega Arms Monolithics and still stay under your targer prices

Lower Receiver, doesn't matter either, most are so close tolerance you will be fine, again if you go with a Mega Upper,  get a mega lower, both billet

Lower receiver parts kit, go with a good brand, like RRA, the big thing will be which trigger you put in it, i would give you my recommendation, take too long, i have them all and have a preference

Stock, up to you if you want a collapsible or fixed....alot of good ones out there, I like UBS, F93, PRS, etc.
