I'm looking for some help, I'm having a hard time understanding which barell for what I'm trying to build. I want to use a 16" barell with magpul moe rifle length handguard with fsb. Can I fit a gas block in this handguard and just use a carbine barell? I'm kind of confused how to set this up, and have it function. Any advice is appreciated. This is similar to what I'm trying to build. http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg105/blacklab101/Magpul-Rifle-MOE-Handguard_zps7f089186.jpg Help us out here. If I read this correctly, you want a 16" barrel with carbine gas system. You want to put a low profile gas block under the hand guard, and a "fake" FSB out at rifle length? |

The simplest thing for you to do is to get a barrel for a Dissipator set up. You need a 16" barrel with a rifle length gas system. That's the set up in the picture you posted.
Since Magpul MOE handguards do not free float, if you use a carbine gas system, you would need a low profile gas block for the gas system and another gas block at the muzzle to hold the handguard cap for the front of the handguards. |
| To use rifle length handguard u must use rifle length gas system if you use fsb. The fsb placement is direct relation to ur gas system. There are 3 lengths gas systems, carbine being shortest, then mid length and longest being rifle length. A fixed fsb limits your use of handguards to length of your gas system. Sum people use lo profile gas blocks underneath longer quadrails but you said you want fsb. And you cant run lo pro gb's underneath longer moe handguards unless u run 2 gb's which makes no sense imo. Moe hg's limit you to the length of ur gas system. So whatever gas system you choose for ur bbl will be the length of moe hg you will use. So u need a rifle length gas system on your bbl to run that moe hg. Save urself time & $ by getting rifle length gas bbl for your build. Gl |
| Thanks for the replies, and sorry it took so long I went to watch a basketball game. The reason I wanted to avoid the rifle length gas system is because I have read many people say they are unreliable. I want the long sight radius, and longer handguard, I just thought it would be most reliable as a carbine. I've seen a few people who have done this, but I'm not sure if it would work with this handguard. |

Try a Carbine Gas length Barrel with a lo-pro gas block coupled with a clamp on A2 front site. Such as this....

Gl Er, I have a 16" bbl w/ a muzzle mounted (pinned) front sight, and a carbine mounted screw-mounted lo profile gas block. If anything, OP should run carbine or mid-length gas. |
