Finished this one up a month ago and just getting round to posting details:

Lower and Lower: DPMS

Mostly DPMS lower parts, but I bought all parts seperate since I would not be using a number of them for this build anyways

Wilson Combat oversized bolt catch

DPMS oversized safety

DPMS A2 buttstock Ass. (replaced stock rear sling attatchment with a stud)

Magpul MIAD grip and winter trigger guard

KNS trigger/hammer pin set

Bushmaster Bolt Carrier

CMT 6.8 bolt (Cardinal Armory was out of complete BCG so I had to buy the bolt seperate and drop it into the Bushmaster)

DPMS Charging handle

MI flip up rear sight

Cardinal Armory 16" mid length, SPR profile, barrel

JP Viking Tactics Mid Length modular free float

YHM 5C1 muzzle device (.308 sized since thats what the 6.8barrels are threaded for)

PRI gas block with flip up front sight

Please pardon my gehtto ACOG (it is a cheap BSA red dot) but you know it has served me well over the years.  I borrowed it from my Ruger 10/22 which is sporting a scope now and when I dropped it onto this bad boy and brought it to the range it took ONE adjustment at 25 yards to zero and start blasting approx 1 1/2" groups using factory ammo.

I wanted a 6.8 this time and I also wanted to add a few features that I thought would be an improvement over my first .223/5.56 build.  Went with oversized bolt catch and safety for gigglesand they seem kind of nice and workable.  The MIAD was another upgrade.  I have big hands, and with the large rear insert in it fills my hand MUCH better.  Installing the forend was an interesting change from the norm.  This time you actually red locktite an aluminum nut onto the upper receiver and use a special barrel nut that screws into that....it is basically like REVERSE of the normal way you set up a barrel.  Kinda cool!  I may eventually move on to a slightly better dotscope...maybe a Bushnell MP Trophy.  Either way I think I am sticking with a dot scope as opposed to magnified glass.

Looks nice man.  I was going to let you know that Simmon also makes an inexpensive red dot that is great.  They are only $40 bucks and i have two of them personally.  I actually like the cheaper red dots for taking to the range because you dont have to worry about a $300 + sight getting messed up.

I hear ya.  I wish I could afford a real ACOG or EOtech, but I look at the cost of such monsters and think of what new rifle parts I could get for another build with thta kind of money .  As long as the Dot Scope holds zero (which so far this one has never given me an issue with that) what more could I ask for!?

Nice looking build.

That red dot will hold fine for you. You'll be better off using that money for ammo and training than the fancy red-dots. When you eventually to the point where you want want, check EE, you can get some nicely used sights for a very good deal.
