I've been debating whether or not to build a mk 18 mod 0 clone.  Assuming I use quality parts, is there any reason why I should buy one already assembled from LMT or will building one myself result in just as good of a product?  Is there anything magical that some companies do to make their products so good?

Thanks

There are a lot of good parts out there - and some bad ones. If you choose wisely you can build a rifle as good as anyone makes today. Knowing what you want and doing the research make all the difference.

Build.

For a SBR, building seems to be the path of least resistance administratively.

That said, if you play your cards right, you almost always save at least a little bit of money by building.

Since you're looking at LMT, I'd go with BUY.

IMO it takes a very high end/well spec'ed Frankengun to have more value than a Tier 1 factory weapon like LMT.

Like previous poster stated, you have advantages of warranty, factory support, etc.

And if you really want to own something as close to .mil as you can, LMT would be one of your choices.

If you get the MRP, you can switch barrels/calibers EASILY and you can even convert back and forth from DI to piston if you want.

BUY it.

There are plenty of 10.5" barrels out there, but very few with the FSB attached, very few that have HP/MPI testing done, and everything else that LMT does to ALL of their barrels.
You'll save a little money assembling yourself, but not enough to matter.  The LMT is worth it.

What do you mean "least resistance administratively"?  How is buying a barreled upper any less legal than buying a barrel and a receiver separately?

And I'd like to see somebody show a 10.5" barrel WITH FSB attached, for sale somewhere, that comes close to the quality LMT offers.

BUILD IT DUDE! not even a decision to make.  I thought researching and building was almost as fun as shooting mine.  You will appreciate a built one more then a bought one.  I built my first one and love it.  The only expensive thing you will need is a torque wrench...and I am sure you can barrow someone's off of your hometown forum.

Building you learn more.... How to assemble, maintain, and fix when something goes wrong or breaks.  You get the rifle "YOU" want not the rifle a company decides to build and sorry that option is not available on this rifle but is on the $500 higher one.

I have bought 1 AR and the rest I have built or will build.  Unless I find killer deals on a built one that I cannot live without.

Build for sure.  Seems like I always had to settle for or update some parts on purchased uppers or rifles.  With a build it's spec'd out exactly as I wanted it.  As another poster stated, it's enjoyable to hunt down the exact parts YOU want to go into the build...

Build using the correct length 10.3" barrel from Daniel Defense & you'll have yourself a nice lil clone.

its better to build your own and customize it to your needs than buy one

Build it the way you want it configured and call it own.
