I can't decide whether to build or buy. I want to get something along the lines of the AP4. Do I build or buy? I think I'll probably go with DPMS because of cost. I want a carbon fiber handguard (oh yeah, I want this somewhat light weight), 18" light contour barrel, & collapsable stock. If I bought the AP4, I would end up swapping out the handguard and gas block, & turn down the barrel a bit. Extra $$$. |

I did a couple AR10 builds, so not eactly the same situation but close, and it ended up being cheaper to purchase the complete rifle and then modify from there. The most recent one was about a year ago, so the situation might have changed. I think that there just arent enough sources of the 308 AR components to drive the cost down like we have for the -15. |

NVB is right. I added up costs for everything from a stripped lower, finding the cheapest prices on AR10 parts, etc; and came to the conclusion that it was simply not worth it, monetarily speaking. And you also run into the same problem though when buying factory built, they most always do not have the configuration that you want; always something else... |
