A friend I work with wants an AR! He looked at a Bushmaster for $750 ish.I think it would be better to build one that way you put the better stuff in it and I think it would not be much more$.What are some good priced lowers I had him look at RRA.Any help getting a new guy in the sport would be great.
                                                               Thanks Rob

general consensus is that a lower is a lower, doesn't matter whose name is on it, and I would recommend an upper from Bravo Company, I have been very pleased with my BCM upper, and their customer service is great

Go with a KAC lower.  there is a difference in that one.  I don't own one yet...but I WILL.

CDNN Colt 6520 for 899.00 now. I think if I wanted a 16" right now I would buy this and not build (LIFETIME WARRANTY). Just my .02.

Depending on which model, new or used would depend on the Bushy being a good deal in my opinion.  Never personally had a bad experience with Bushmaster but I mostly just use their barrels and stripped lower receivers if user wants the snake logo.   I do think you could use some better parts in that budget with out going way over.  First thing to decide is what he wants carbine or rifle length, flat top or fixed sight and all new or a blend of new and used.  It's going to be his so tell him what he probably needs and let him buy what he wants.  Kinda limits your liability if you know what I mean and with AR's most all BRD candidates change their minds like they change their drawers.

Just about any forged lower will be fine and they mostly boil down to name and logos.  Same with lpk's but I'd stick to name brand here and not generic,  same with stocks but I prefer early Colt A-1 fixed myself for basically nothing.  M-4 is cheap enough but let friend buy the one they want.  Price will probably escalate deviating from surplus style.

Has friend shot an AR before?  If not,  take friend shooting and let them try yours.  When I do this friends try and buy mine.  I've sold a few over the years also.

What friend wants will depend on the upper you choose.  In a carbine, the flavor of the month seems to be mid-length.  Might be a great place to start.  They were not available when I started shooting AR's so a carbine length picture works for me.  Spikes is really liked on this forum.  Never tried one myself.  I have a few carbines (Colt, Bushy super light barrel homebrew and two Doublestar barreled light carbines homebrewed ) that shoot very well and I'm not buying/building any more for myself at this time.

In a rifle length an A-2 fixed or flat top A-3/A-4 is hard to beat for the coins.  I prefer flat tops (more options) and Colt or FN barrels but BCM has nothing but good reviews.  I have also used Bushy govt profile barrels with good results.  Most prefer a true Colt M-16 carrier and quality tested bolt if they can afford them but there are other quality deals out there.  Still boils down to what your friend wants.  I also use Colt or keyhole forged uppers.  You could sell friend one of yours and build yourself a new one.  Keep in mind it's what friend wants and not what you want. Good luck.
