First off I want to say thank you to everyone who contributes to this site as it is a great source of info.

I plan on building from a stripped lower and a complete upper which I dont for see being to terribly hard,
but am I dumb for planning to build an ar 15 having never shot one?

Not at all. I just built my first after having a SW MP15T as my first. It definitely gives you a better understanding of how it works internally. With all the youtube videos available on assembly,  its a pretty easy task.

I would buy the tools needed (punch set) and have a go at it, if you need help there are a lot of people here more than happy to offer assistance.

Should be easy enough with a few tools.  I built my first lower in 45 minutes after reading the how-to's on this site.

I had not fired an AR15 or M16 before I built my Varmint rifle.  Building it gave me a better feel for it by the time it was ready to be shot the first time.

This was my anniversary gift from my wife.

Can't wait to get my lower parts and do some work.
