Several years ago, about 20, my dad made me a fishing pole.  To this day, I love that pole and get a little glint in my eye when I tell people that my dad made it.  So, in return, I am planning my first AR build which will be for my dad.

That being said, I would like a little advise.  My dad is not nearly as "tactical" as I would like to be.  He is more of a shooter and proud gun owner.  So, for this rifle, I would liek something very accurate and easy to shoot.

My thoughts are this:

RRA post ban lower
RRA lower parts kit
Some sort of trigger upgrade (needs to be good, but not the best)
Something like the RRA A4 20" upper, or something more accurate

Any advise you fellas can provide would be great.  Most likely it will be a paper puncher, maybe varmint gun, so probably chambered in .233 Rem NOT 5.56 NATO  Thanks again

If he's not into the "tactical" look, why not put on a bull barrel with the free-float handguard and no front sight (or flip-down front sight)?  Along with a flat-top receiver and scope you can make a very respectable target gun this way (at least that's what I've been told!)

Build him a 20" rifle with SS barrel.  I would go with the Oly SUM barrel, as they are a fantastic barrel for the money.

For the money try Model "1" sales in shotgun news.  You can build a flattop 24" extra heavy stainless barrel with your choice of  rate of twist for 510 bucks minus the stripped lower.  I know of several people who have done this, myself included, and have been very pleased.

Personally I like RRA's stuff.  I have a couple of their uppers and they are as accurte as any other factory upper I have seen.  Maybe even more so.
I have a 2 stage RRA trigger in one of my lowers.  It is not the best trigger I have ever felt, but it is better than some I have felt.  And I have never had it come out of adjustment like a friends Jewell.

What part of SC are you in?  If we are close enough you can try the trigger if you like.

And ditto on what MR-L said.

How about a Model 1 kit in 6.8

So he can use it to hunt as well?

KW, I'm in Anderson, about 30 minutes to the southwest of Greenville.  Whereabouts are you?  Anyhow, thanks for all the infor guys.  I had planned on the 20" or 24" free-floated barrel.  Any thoughts on the carbon fiber handguards available?  I'm considering changing to a different lower for his project, and getting the Gov't marked RRA for my M4gery.
Any more suggestions would be great...
