With the current shortage, I'm trying to figure out what would be the fastest way to get a working gun (this is my first AR build).

Do you think it would be faster to order parts for the upper separately and build it myself or to just buy the upper half assembled?  I'm not afraid of building the upper myself, and I have already ordered the parts for the lower.

I'm just interested in putting together a working gun as soon as I can.  Though I'm sure many others are too.

From what I've seen shoppign around a few of the stores online, there are more single parts available then kits or completed uppers right now.  They seem to be getting the parts back in stock faster then completes also.  You may be faster piecing an upper together, you just may not get exactly what you want with whats in stock.

Not getting exactly what I want isn't a big deal really.  So now the problem is finding places with the pieces I need in stock.

The hardest parts to find right now from what I can tell is: lowers, lower parts kits bolt carrier groups and barrels.

+1, all I need is a Stripped Lower to complete a build. There are a few Locally, Gonna breakdown and pay the extra $$$$ today.

I should be getting my lower parts kit soon.  And I've been trying to get through to essential arms for my lower receiver.

Does anybody know places that have barrels or bolts assemblies?

I am in the same boat i have just completed my lower.  Should i Build a upper or buy one.... What do you guys think the difference in price is between the two?

I might be wrong and time will determine how wrong I am. I also thought about building my own upper as an attempt to find a way around the back orders on uppers by all the vendors. The trick is finding all the parts in stock, as well. I think by the time I round up all the parts for a decent upper, the gun panick might ween enough to make uppers a bit more easier to get. With my luck, that will be the scenario.

Yeah, that's my concern as well.  But, I think the experience of building it yourself is useful regardless.

Only time will tell.

Bushmaster claims to have both of these in stock.
