Just finished my ar-10 and i don't have a carbine. Buddy of mine wants me to get an AK, witch i will eventually. But i like the ergos and weight of the ar platform. This build is going to be my recreation rifle, Costa does classes less than an hour away from me so i would like to have this ready for next summer or fall to go and get my learn on.

I am looking to build a quality 14.5 middy (sounds good for weight and recoil, staying on target quick shots). I am leaning towards BCM complete upper w/ a Battle comp pinned, But i already have an Troy batle rail on my AR 10 and realy like the profile of the tube. Anyway of getting around buying one of the uppers with a rail i dont want. What i need is the upper without a rail. The ones they sell without rails have the f post front sight and with a pinned fh trying to switch it out for a low pro fh is gonna be a pain.

For the lower, I am a novice but i would still like to try building my lower. I am thinking a armalite striped lower (just to keep it in the family as i already have an ar 10).
I understand a great trigger makes shooting well a lot easier and i figure i need all the help i can get. The Supper dynamic 3gun looks to be a realy short crisp trigger. Magpul miad grip ( like the one on my ar 10) and magpul ctr, moe, or an UBR? The ctr is light weight but the UBR might add balance. anyone have an opinion? Or should i buy the complete lower and add the stuff i want and try not to F it up.

Thanks for any help.
Just for kicks these are my other girls, they need another sister!

The only one I would trust around here:

Wayne Bergquist Guns & Gunsmiths
5760 Shirley St., #21
Naples, FL  34109
239-594-1573
Fax 239-597-8259

Here's their link:

They're down off Trade Center Way on Shirley Street.  Not the cheapest, but 100% reliable.

Knows his way around AR's too!

If you're taking it to a gunsmith, why not just buy the unpinned 14.5" upper and the muzzle device you want and have your gunsmith pin the flash hider when he puts it all together.  That's what I did since BCM didn't even offer the rail I wanted.

P:  14.5 inches is too short for mid-length gas IMO.  The ideal 5.56 set up is carbine gas for 14.5 and shorter barrels, mid length gas for 16" barrels and rifle gas for 18 and 20 inchers.  If i were in your shoes, I'd get a lightweight 16" barrel with middy gas from from AR Performance and a 9" Midwest Industries SS gen 2 handguard.   Mine only weighs 7.2 oz including the steel barrel nut. - CW

I would say this COULD be a possibility with crappy brand uppers.  That upper I posted is my 14.5" which also happens to be a middy.  It functions with every ammo perfectly, including cheap ass and underpowered steel crap.  BCM knows their guns...you will be fine.

My 14.5 is a middy and it runs great.  I like the midlength on 14.5" to 16" barrels.
