I'm thinking for my next build i am gonna go the .458 socom route, I obviously will need a 458 barrel, bolt and larger diameter gas block,
I have also read that one needs to widen the ejection port, Is this something I can just dremel the ends of a spare upper i have lying around?
Or do i need to get a purpose built upper reciever?
Id like to assemble it myself, as I already have most of the parts lying around, and building ar's is half the fun.

Thanks for the help

I'd suggest becoming a member of the 458socomforums site; COLD, one of the Mods for this forum.,owns/runs the site.  Tons of great technical info, that is specific to the 458S platform.

ETA: Marty ter Weeme, the designer of the round, is also a member on here (MartytW).

you will need to enlarge the ejection port, aside from that you are on the right track.  I have not done it, but from what I have read it is not a whole lot of material that needs to be removed.

It's been done with a dremel before, or we can do it for you for a small charge...

Marty,
are you back in ops now since IKE? What time frame will you be taking new orders?

We're getting the back log addressed and parts are finally trickling in.  We THOUGHT we were back in the running and then 130 boxes of stuff were dropped in the shop - all the stuff in the office that got soot damaged and was cleaned/restored - it appears they individually wrapped EVERY book.... so I have to get all that out before I can get to my bench... I am getting uppers out, but again, back log and prefer not to take new orders.  Plus I am trying to get one or two projects that have say idle for 1-2 years done...
