Does this make sense or is this a setup you want to buy complete?
What lower/upper should I look at? I don't know much about the .50s admittedly and I have been trying to do some searches to educate myself. I may not be able to buy the whole gun right now, but I would like to get started perhaps with parts that might end up being banned while I still have a chance. |

Caliber in the AR platform is limited by what you can fit in the magazine and through the ejection port. That being said, good luck fitting a .50 BMG through ANY standard AR upper. Even the AR10 is way too small. You'd have to get a bolt action conversion kit for that to work...which kinda defeats the purpose of the AR platform IMO, and is astronomically expensive (over $2000 IIRC). You might as well get a dedicated bolt action .50BMG rifle.
The best you're going to be able to pull off in a standard receiver is a .50 Beowulf, which is actually pretty awesome. It doesn't have anywhere near the range of the .50 BMG, but for anything inside 200 yards or so, look out. |

several companies make uppers for the ar 15 lower and a couple for the ar 10 lower.
a high quality .50 bmg upper will be more expensive than the cheapest single shot .50 bmg rifle but will perform better. the .50 forum in the armory has more info. currenly the lower is the only regulated item. |

If someone pulled off a .50BMG semi auto upper, thats news to me...and pretty cool! I admittedly don't have a whole lot of experience with the .50BMG, but I thought that the only way it could be done was with a bolt action conversion.
It appears that I stand corrected...although I still can't wrap my head around the physics of it, lol. |

Sorry, I'm with Gunner on this. I'm certainly no expert, and I could certainly be wrong (it's happened many times before), but I've shot next to a guy with a .50BMG - I just do not see how a round that size could be fired through anything that would fit on an AR lower. I'd love to see a picture if one exists!!
Here's a link to the .50BMG Here's a link to the .50 Beowulf I've seen the Beowulf uppers, but I've never seen one chambered for .50BMG. Anyone got a pic??? |

Well shut my mouth! As usual, I stand corrected:
.50BMG for AR-10 Lower All I can say is OMG! $2100-$2600! |
