Is building an M1a as easy as the AR? Its got to cost less to make a supermatch ($2700) M1a. Thoughts, input, suggestions.

Not even close.
For starters, recievers with headspaces barrels arent sold complete through 20 different companies. Less parts / suppliers.

Absolutely not!!!

Real GI parts are somewhat difficult to find and often the prices are sorta high.  The M1A /M14 is generally easy to assemble and disassemble for normal service but not an easy build from "scratch".  Special tooling and a reasonable machine shop are required to correctly fit and headspace the barrel / bolt combination.  This is not a "buy it and throw it together" proposition.  Aftermarket parts are nowhere near as prevalent as for an AR and are more expensive than an equivalent AR part.

A really good, finely-tuned M1A with a Match-Grade SS barrel is going to cost at least $2300-$2700.  Even used Chinese copies (Polytech or Norinco) of the M14 are bringing $600+ these days.  Add a good GI bolt and a decent  barrel and you are over $1000-$1200.

I own a slightly modified / upgraded Polytech and really love to shoot it.  I just couldn't afford a Springfield M1A at the time I bought it.
