I have a lower parts kit from PSA with a Magpul trigger guard assembly instead of the stock one.  The guard does not have a detent in the front that I can push in as per the guide on this site.  Instead it ships with an allen screw.  Is this allen screw supposed to be used on the front instead of the standard detent?  Also, I am not positive as to what size allen wrench I am going to need in order to get it to fit.  Anyone know?

Thanks

Yes the allen screw replaces the detent on the front for the magpul guard, I can't remember what size it is just get out a set of allen wrenches and use the one that fits you don't have to make it supper tight.

What he said^.  If you don't have a selection of allen wrenches to choose from, go buy an inexpensive set, they're invaluable.

The USGI flip down feature goes away with the Magpul design.
The set screw is used in that location....roll pin for the rear location.

Not sure what size Allen...I use the set, so it's not an issue.

If your trigger guard is not threaded, might be easier to thread (or work in the set screw) off the weapon, before the install.

+1. And it's a 1/16 allen wrench.

It happens to mention the size and instructions how to put it on in that neat little package the guard came in.

Didn't get a neat package - it just came with the grip from Palmetto.  However, lower is together and as far as I can tell without shooting it, is functioning well too.  The bolt release is a little stiff/hard.. I figure this will soften up over time?

Remove the locktite from the grip screw before screwing it in.

Use the charging handle to release the bolt after inserting a fresh magazine.

You did put the right spring and pin under the bolt catch before installing the bolt catch and roll pin, right?

If the bolt release is too stiff it may not catch the bolt on the last shot.  In many cases a stiff bolt catch on a new build is caused by the end of the roll pin being expanded from pushing it in.  Try pushing the roll pin back out the way it was inserted a touch.

When not under load, you should just feel spring pressure.
Good tip from OV, to tap back the roll pin a touch, in case it's in a bind.
Lube it, too.
