Hi folks I have been lurking on the site a bit because I wanted to build my own AR.  I have a question about the stock legality in NJ.  I know it cannot be adjustable so does that preclude me from getting one of the Magpul PRS style stocks?

Thanks a million.

Regarding NJ, is it an adjustable, or collapsing stock, thats restricted? I would consider the M4, Magpul MOE/CTR/ACS/UBR, LMT Sopmod, VLTOR modstock/iMOD/Emod, and the like, to be collapsable; and the Magpul PRS, to me, is adjustable.

I don't know your state laws, so if its a "gray" area, maybe stay on the safe side and just get a fixed A1 or A2 stock. Im in CA so we're kinda in the same boat..

It can be "adjustable" (cheek weld, LOP etc,) but not "collapsable" which is obviously evil...

You could get a sweet adjustable stock and have it pinned in place.

The PRS is "adjustable" but not "collapsable." It's also frickin heavy. It's really expensive. I wouldn't recommend it.

My best advice would be to "vote with your feet" and move.

As much I'd like to move it would more likely be over the fact that we are the most taxed state in the union.  After reading I just grabbed a Magpul UBR and MOE hand grip.

I live in mass and we have the same ridiculous laws. I have a magpul Moe stock which is obviously adjustable.  So I set it where its comfortable for me and pinned it. Very easy to do.

What did you use to pin it?  Does it need to be tacked in place with something?  Thanks.

Im stuck here in NJ with ya.... sucks donit..... if you got the UBR, how do you plan to pin it? the moe/ctr is easy drill a small hole in the ears that the friction lock covers, then slide in a role pin of the appropriate size and your done! works with any sliding stock just pick any spot that doesnt cut into the buffer spring tube area.

a trigger guard roll pin works well..

again, you drill a single hole on 1 side into the TRACK area of the stock... just in front of the lever pivot point..

videos on Utube on how to..

I like using the trigger guard roll pin idea, it can be tough finding simple small parts that work. thanks for the tip.

Carefully? :)  I'll look it over and if it doesn't work out I'll sell and get a CTR but really like the UBR stocks.

This is a moe stock, and the position will work on a ctr stock also.  To pin a different stock just find a discreet location like this, and drill an 1/8" hole through one side of the stock and through one side of the lower section of the buffer tube.  Get a 1/8" x 1/2" roll pin and push it through.  Different stocks may need a longer roll pin but for a moe or ctr this size works.  You can get the roll pin at any hardware store that sells bolts, etc.

Haha yeah carefully.... i like the UBR too but just cant justify spending the money and pinning it but maybe i will..... for now ill just keep using the ctr.

I wanted the sniper stock but I wasn't getting positive feedback on those and the UBR seems to be a bit lighter.  I wanted something more substantial for the CTR because it is a 18.5" bull barrel and I wanted a bit more balance.  I'm hopeful it will work.

That is a valid point. with that bull barrel the UBR would be a good way to balance it out. hopefully you find a way to pin it. post it up if you do! so i can do it too

OK, I drilled and put a trigger pin in my UBR.  Unfortunately when I was looking at the drills for the drill press I thought I grabbed a steel twist only to find I didn't and it nicked the rubber.  I think I can obviously fix it but first lets see if this passes NJ muster for a UBR.  It's drilled and I tapped the pin in with a steel punch.  I don't think it'll come out if I wanted it to.  Should I solder around the area or any thing else?  I'll clean it up a bit but the most important thing is to not be chucked in the clink.

Thanks all.

Pulled the trigger pin out and got a roll pin.  I can't smack or pull it out with a pick so I guess it's pretty much pinned for NJ.

Here is the finished product.  I need a scope mount for the 3x9-40mm I have and then I can shoot it.
