I have a DPMS AP4 and have made several cosmetic modifications. Shoots great, never any problems.

i'm going to build my first and would like it for longer ranges and very accurate. I have no probelm putting the money into the best parts to build this rifle.
So I'm looking for input in what components I should be looking for in regards to lowers, uppers, barrels, triggers, scopes, stocks and other compents to build this.

There is so much great info and knowledge here, this will be fun!

Thanks in advance!!

A 55gr 223 loaded at 3300 FPS would get you out to ~700 yards before sound begins to catch up and destabilze the bullet, even if your lucky enough to have a zero wind condition.  If your shooting 600 yards a 69 grain bullet would probably be minimum.  308 is much better suited for 600 yards IMHO.

Even considering 308, what range do you have regular access to?  Not sure what your situation is but it usually doesn't make sense to build a gun that you can't really shoot.  You can use reduced targets at closer ranges to fake it I suppose.

Spend your money on the upper.  A standard brand lower will be fine see ad bar at top of the page.  Want to spend some jack for accuracy.  Go stand in line a get a Krieger barrel. There are other fine barrels though.  Get yourself a crisp high quality trigger, maybe a geissele or timney.  Generic advice for a questions without many specifics.

I have 2 Kriegers in .308. A 24" and a 20' superb accuracy. I was talking to one of the guys I know that works there. He said they are quoting 12-15 months on anything ordered now.
My 24" took 8 months, way before the panic. My 20" about 1 1/2, but it had way less work done on it. Just chambered to my bolt, and threaded to my flash hider.
I run a Geissele, in both of them. Both built on Mega-10 sets.

Thanks for the info, really appreciate it!

I think I will go with a .308 build for my long range rifle. I'm looking at 600 - 800 yards. Sounds like Krieger is the way to go. Guess I better get a barrel on order right away.

I have a couple stripped AR-15 Lowers. Think I will build them up in a couple different configurations, one of them will be for the wife.

I will post pics when I get them done.

Thanks again.
