Hey everyone. I have just started the process to begin building my first AR. I have already got a few things including an Aero Precision stripped lower and a lower parts kit.

As with most people, I am on a budget. I don't need this thing to be battle proven as it will never see much more use than to shoot against coyotes and plinking around the house.

Just wanted to introduce myself. As I said, I have never built an AR before but I am fairly mechanically inclined. I am pretty positive I can do this but I will need some advice on the different parts to buy.

Thanks in advance for any help you may provide to me and if you have any suggestions, please let me know them.

Welcome to the site. Maybe you give us a little info about what you would like in an AR. Are you wanting a 16", 18" or 20" barrel gun? Carbine, mid-length, or rifle-length gas? What will be the main purpose for this AR, varmints, self defense, target shooting, range blaster, precision, all-around, truck gun? What is your budget?

when i built both my lowers, i found a video on youtube showing precisely what to do.

no problems with either, just go slow and have fun , especially when one of the detents come flying out at mach 2!

ETA: found it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iA_Vkb2UB1w   from DVDTracker .

can't embed for you , i need to be a team member to do that .

I used to do a lot of deer hunting so I wouldn't mind to have an AR that could really reach out there.

Although I don't know a lot about the AR platform, I assume I could have more than one barrel if I wanted to go from one to another.

I am not sure what you mean by Carbine, mid-length or rifle length gas.

Main purpose would be varmints, target shooting, deer hunting, general fun. Self defense really wouldn't be necessary as I use a Remington 870 18" tactical or M&P Shield for those purposes.

Budget... I am thinking around $600. I was going to buy a cheaper DPMS AR for around that but I have been told I can build a higher quality AR for approx the same price.

Although, I have been thinking about building it towards a .22 so the ammo will be cheaper, this allowing more shooting fun. I really don't know if I need a .223. I have a .270 Weatherby.

Ok, so after realizing how expensive .223 ammo can be and how scarce it is becoming, I'm really considering buying a dedicated .22 upper.
