OK, I've ordered a kit from J&T,A lower from Pete in NH,bought 3 roll pin punches.

How badly do I need the roll pin holders(@10.00 each)?

How badly do I need the pivot pin installation tool? and how/where would I get one?

any other advice that you may offer is much appreciated.

Thanks.

I've done several successfully but am hardly an expert, so take this for what it is worth. Never used a roll pin holder,or knew they existed for that matter. Just used a grinder to put a slight chamfer on the front end of any pin that was being difficult. You can used some cold blue to touch up the pin if you like. You can make a pivot pin tool out of a short piece of 1/4" rod with a 1/8" hole drilled about 1/4" in from one end.
Take your time on the first one. The process can seem daunting at first glance, but after you do it you'll wonder why you were so concerned.

I use needle nose pliers to hold roll pins if neccesary and a 1/4" Allen wrench for installing the pivot pin. I found it easy to drill the hole (3/32?) on the flat of the wrench.
