So here I sit with my first SBR tax stamp and no short barreled upper to put on it (awaiting 2nd tax stamp to bring that upper home).
Then I look around and realize I've got a stripped upper, a complete BCG, a spare charging handle and an upper parts kit that I picked up from PSA's Labor Day Sale. Now I'm thinking I'll pick up the rest of the parts I need to finish this into a nice little SBR, then once I get my 2nd stamp I'll use this upper on a pistol. Here's what I'm thinking so far: CMMG 8.5" 300 BLK barrel YHM Low Profile gas block Pistol length gas tube (& required roll pin) ATI 8-sided Carbine length hand guard The only part I'm not sure of yet is the muzzle device. I also have an SWR Octane 45 suppressor on order and so I imagine that I will eventually want to use that with this upper but that's going to be a looooong wait so I'd like to get a good flash hider for the interim. I'm thinking maybe a Troy Claymore. Once the Octane arrives though I'll probably just keep a thread protector on it as I'll most likely only shoot suppressed after that. Does anyone have experience with this 8.5" CMMG barrel? Its description says it has trouble with subsonics without a suppressor. I may switch to a 10.5" barrel instead to get reliable function with the subs even when unsuppressed. Hmm, I guess I'm undecided on that too... |

I am just starting to research the tax stamp rules for SBR's, so pardon the newb question....but why do you need a 2nd tax stamp for the upper. I thought the stamp was for the lower only? Sorry if I confused you. I have a two stamp gun because the upper that I've purchased has a built-in suppressor. I've already got my SBR stamp on the lower so I can build the SBR but I can't bring my particular upper home until the suppressor stamp comes. |

I have the CMMG 8.5 with a YHM block on my 300 BLK pistol build. It does not cycle subs. I'm waiting on my suppressor stamp and have a KX3 on now shooting supers. Thanks for the info! As much as I would like to go 8.5" I think I'm going to get the 10.5" since I don't have a suppressor on hand yet and it would suck to run only supers (I've already stocked hundreds of rounds of subs). Hmm, now to decide if I want to stick with that 6" handguard or find one thats 10". |

I am trying to learn as much as I can about the process. Cant wait to get an SBR and suppressor! |
