New to the forum here, also a new PA-15 owner. Well, the other day I was out sighting in my new scope and I believe one of my shots tumbled. I went to look at the target and there was a clear cut hole that looked as if it went in sideways. I was shooting at 100 yards. My gun has a 16" SS 223 Wylde barrel. I was shooting 55 grain Federal AE rounds. For the most part I can get 1.5" groups at 100 yards with this round. What would cause the bullet to tumble? |

It had a core abnormality that caused to to destabilise. It was crimped too tight and deformed the jacket. It had a flaw in its jacket construction. It was undersized during production. It hit a butterfly on the way down range. It hit your muzzle device leaving the rifle. It hit some grass on the way down range. It was skipped off the dirt into the target. Somebody else skipped it off the dirt into your target. If only one did it, no big deal. If you have a common problem with it, something to look into. |

55gr bullet shouldnt tumble / keyhole shooting long bullets like SS109,77gr SMK in a 1/12 twist can do this Correct, a 55gr should be stable in any common twist rate. But things happen, bullets get damaged, cores aren't swaged properly into the jacket, could have been anything. OP, if this only happened once don't worry, shoot another 100 rounds and look for it again. |
