I have a new to me Colt H-Bar. It ha a 1 in 9" rate and a 20" barrel.
From reading the ammo oracle I think I need a 55gr bullet, although it seems the 62gr would be good too.
Would either weight work as well as the other, or is one better than the other?
Should I try to find milsurp ammo, like the M193 or M855 or should I just buy commercial like Winchester?
This is my first AR so forgive me asking dumbass questions like this.

I'm sure there are many, prob. most on this site, would be more qualified to answer but from my limited understanding bullet's in the range of 55 - 62 grain will work "best" w/ a 1-9 barrel like your. Barrels w/ a > than 1 - 9 twist work best w/ lighter 40g or so varmint type rounds. In that same context barrels such as 1 - 7 twist work well with the heavy match type ammo. If you use heavy rounds like this with your barrel they may not stabilize. This is not to say the roundsor lighter ones will not function in your weapon but you may not get the performance you would like. There is some information on ammo in a magazine artical in "Guns and Ammo - Book of the AR15" I bought the other day at Barns and Nobel.

try some commercial winchester first, it is local an usually not too expensive and you don't have to buy it in bulk. So if it don't work, you're not stuck with a lot of it.

Umm When I said don't work, I meant it is not very accurate.

I have a colt 1/9 twist and can shoot bullet wts all the way up to the 69 gr Sierra's just fine.

You just need to find what is accurate for you in your rifle, for some it is the Milsurp M193 or the M855 and others it is Wolf or Winchester.

Thanks. I will pick up some Winchester in the white box at my local WalMart. I may pick up some other weight at CTD when I go.
I also forgot tha dad has a load he uses in his Browning A-Bolt. He shoots clover leaf groups at 100 yards with it. I have to check the powder charge to make sure it will cycle the action.
