Hello - I was wondering if anyone knows of a way to remove the flash supressor on my bushmast XM-15  it says that it is permanently attached, but I want to switch it out for a different piece to facilitate the use of a sound suppressor. any ideas?  if you arent familiar with it - it looks like there is a silver ring around the base of the flash suppressor... is this a weld? or some sort of retaining device? thanks for any help!

A lot of info in this thread, including the brake removal.  It's 'tacked' at the top of the Build It Yourself forum.

there is two spots on the flash hider itself, there are pins welded there so just grind it down till you can get the pins out and then unscrew the flash hider.

the ring is the washer.

Or you can cut it off and rethread (need to recrown also).

The ring is either a peel or crush washer, it is used so the flash hider can be aligned correctly.  You can also have the FH removed by a gunsmith there are a couple of companies here in the industry section that do it, ie. JTAC Supply and ADCO.

I assume your barrel is 14.5", so if you remove the Izzy your going to have to have the new FH perm attatched and it has to at least the same size as the Izzy.  Unless you know what to do I would send it off to one of the above mentioned companies.
