what you really want is the lightweight or "government" profile barrell. it's lighter than the m4.

unless you are class 3 or into serious accuracy i think it is the best option. Of course actually getting one right now many be a problem.

You can't say Bushmaster M4, you will get sued by the prancing pony.

I have an HBAR, and voted HBAR, but if I do another M4 type I will probably go with an M4 profile barrel.  I mainly got the HBAR because it was what was available to me at the time.  I don't regret it though.

my bushy 16 is an hbar. i will be replaceing the barrell with a lightweight 16 as soon as bushy gets them made. after lugging it around for run and gun for the last 2 years every ounce of weight makes a difference.

The Army would disagree with most of you because the new heavier M4 barrel is 8 0uces heavier than the M4 weight and 4 ounces less than a regular HBAR of the same legnth.14.5.Why do they use it because of better heat resistance in sustained or full-auto.I dont have a full-auto but in sustained fire you can get a real high rate of fire and Id rather have a part that can take the heat for just a bit heavier.Hell Ive seen some tricked out M4 profile rifles that with gadgets weigh more than my 14.5 HBAR A2 with an aimpoint.I like heavier.

M4 or lightweight.

If you want a heavy gun, get a .308.

I HAVE BOTH LIKE THE M4 BETTER GOUPS ARE THE SAME AND M4 COOLS OFF FASTER AFTER LONG STRINGS OR FULL AUTO

Here is the breakdown:

Guys complain about the weight of the HBar, but they only carry them from their safe to their car, and from their trunk to the range.

So they insist on an M4 barrel, citing that HBars are useless without full Auto, even though M4 barrels are useless without an M203.

Bottom line:  Buy whatever barrel YOU personally like.  Unless you are planning on mounting an M203 or using the barrel on a Full Auto lower (even at which, 30 rounds wont warp even a superlight barrel), or planning on taking your rifle on 20K hikes while also carrying a full ruck, than no barrel profile offers more of a function then the other.

That being said, my personal preference is a Fluted Hbar.

HBAR is straight and a tad heavier (~3/4 lb)

the M4 has contours for mounting a grenade launcher and less weight inside the HGs

i like the HBAR better

Let's face it, most people don't have access to a grenade launcher.  If you can't carry it, you need to work out more.  That's what the DIs use to say.  HBAR if you haven't figured.  I use to hump 100 lbs of gear, a few more oz doesn't really matter.

I love my little Bushmaster M4A3, and I prefer the bigger oval M4 style handguards, I guess it’s just what you want for yourself. You’re on the right track though, Bushmaster has a good product.
