Does anyone have one of these, if so, how does it shoot???

Quite excellent, They are great I have one it was my first.
When I first got it

After a few addons.

I have over 2000 rounds down range and just love it. I then had to get another AR

This one shoots as good as well.

Thanks for the reply, hope to hear from some more owners too.

I think they arent worth it. You are paying extra money for rails and back up irons that are not as nice as others you could buy and add later. You'd probably wind up spending the same amount in the end, and have better parts.

I've got the BM 25th Ann. Carbine, which is the rifle that the Mod. Carbine was based on. Same thing, except that mine has a little more glitz.

They are excellent rifles and I absolutely love mine, but I tend to agree with new-arguy, they are very expensive for what they are. You would be better served building one and putting more money into mags, ammo, optics, etc... Not trying to discourage, for I am a HUGE Bushmaster fan.

But like Rolly, I couldn't stop at just one.

Number three (an M4gery) is in the process of being built, with the expert guidance of the Arfcom team.

However, this one shoots great!

Having built a few AR's I can see your point. When I bought mine I had no experence building and it was easy to get into a real nice setup.
If you look at it like this the cheapest AR from Bushy is what 750.00? You take off the A2 stock, plastic forearms and grip. Now buy YHM free float forearm and sights, aftermarket stock , grip and fluted barrel what do you add to the price? Maybe retail 500.00? I don't have time to price it now but it's still a good value I think.
Here's mine the day I brought it home.

While I've never shot one, I will admit it's the gun that got me into AR's. I do agree the price is a little up there. You could have a similar build using better parts for the same price. If you want a customized AR out of the box, I'd say go for it as no one else really offers a custome package like it.

I bought one during the ban when they first came out before I knew how to "build" my own.  If I could go back I would have never bought it.  The only thing on it know that came with the gun is the the upper, lower and barrel (now threaded by ADCO).  Everything else including the trigger has been changed.  When you start comparing the better componets (flip up sights, FF Rail) you find out that you can have the same rifle with better componets for the same or less money.  Oh well we have to learn from something.
5/11/2005 5:59:17 PM EDT
[#19]
Start with standard Bushmaster flat top with fluted barrel and get;

PRI gas block ($60)
ARMS #40 rear sight ($90)
a Daniel Defense 9" forend ($310)
Troy flip up front ($120)

OR...

PRI front sight ($190)
ARMS #40 rear sight ($90)
Daniel Defense 7" forend ($300)

You will spend about the same or maybe a little mote as the Modular carbine. But you will have a better front sight, a better rear sight, a better rail system and a much nicer stock. I just dont see the point of buying an upgraded rifle like that with inferior (compared to the above listed and others) accessories.

Its not a bad gun, I work on them fairly regular. But I will never forget the guy who had one, then proceeded to change all the Yankee Hill parts and the Ace stock. He basically built a completely different gun and spent way more than he had to. In the end, he loved the gun (it was really sweet actually) but very expensive when you are left with all the extra parts as spares.

You would be better off building from scratch.
With the prices you have there and this rifle here you would be at 1700 or 1600.
You could sell the carry handle for seventy five off

Ripcode and dep4532

I know he was not bashing.
I know it was just his opinion that’s why I also stated that it was cool.

But for the people like me who bought the Modular Carbine. We don't like anyone else knocking our stuff. Even though I know that there are better components to install on the AR. This was my first AR and I have no tools to build one as yet. But for the money I thought it was a fair deal. Because you have to include the cost of all the required tools, parts, and shipping fees, and of course your time. Buying one complete and ready to go was a great way to get started. This is also a rifle I can put 50,000 rounds through and not worry about if I wear it out.
My Second AR was a different case. I put a RRA National Match 2 stage trigger in it.
And have further plans for it but this one will be for accuracy not just plinking.

Anyway I am not offended by  new-arguy's
comments and understand his point, I hope you can understand my point.

You will find that gun anywhere you look for at least a couple hundred dollars less than what price is listed there. Putting you at $1400 to $1500 which is about $100 to $200 more than what most people here say they paid for the modular carbines. If you look hard on the Equipment Exchange, you could probably find all the parts I listed for less than whayt I quoted as well. Im just saying it works out to be a lot closer than what most would think.

Last time I saw the website AIM SURPLUS had the MC for $1125 plus shipping.
5/11/2005 6:47:06 PM EDT

Aim Surplus is dealer pricing... not street prices. Unless you are a dealer or very good friends with one, no dealer will sell you that gun at their cost. Some places do cheap transfers, maybe $25 (most delers could be more than that). That and shipping and you might as well just get it from the dealer at their ticket price. Either way you wont get a NIB modular for $1125.

I also have a 25th ann. Its soooo close to number 25 its scary, but I had my dealer put in a order as soon as I heard about it, even then he question my source

Adding your 25th ann. to the list makes 4 out of the 1500, owned by Arfcom members. Certainly our little community here owns a higher percentage of them than that.  Maybe we should start a tally, to see if we've actually cornered the market.
5/12/2005 2:38:45 PM EDT

You can add #5 to the tally.  The BM 25'th was my first AR.  Absolutely love it.  Ended up getting a BM 20'th anniversary rifle to go with it.
However,  my 25'th now supports an ACE M4 SOCOM And will be sending in the barrel to be threaded.  (The skeleton stock is going on a new rifle build).
Once you get into AR's,  building them is definetly the way to go.  Got mine during the ban so they seemed to be the way to go then.  Now I'm building them the way I want them.heaper.
They will always be my special rifles as they are what carried in THE BLACK RIFLE DISEASE.
My 25'th is one awsome carbine now with the ACE M4SOCOM, 552 EOTECH w/LARUE mount, and SUREFIRE m900AB.

Oh my,!! you had the balls to alter a Anniversary rifle?
If it were my rifle I would have left that one the way I bought it. However I would shoot it just not shoot the hell out of it.
By the way I am envious

I just added four additional Bushmaster lowers to the herd. I'm currently working with Jim Eden from Bushmaster on something a little different that I hope to have completed by mid June....so stay tuned!

This was the second AR I bought, and it has performed very well for me. However, the main reason I bought it was because I did not know anything about different rail manufacturers at the time, and I have no tool/handiwork skillz, so I just wanted a railed AR with flipup irons ready to go out of the box. I also didn't know about builders on this site (was very new to ARFCOM at the time) that could put uppers together for you. Currently, Grant is doing surgery on mine, getting a LT 9.0, Troy front sight (will probably also end up with Troy rear sight), and the LT gas block.

It does shoot very well for a chrome lined bbl. One day, I was shooting with a buddy who has a good rifle rest, and is a pretty skilled rifle shooter and we shot several different ammos through it at a hundred yards. I personally had only used it for cqb type shooting and in one carbine class. But even though I had a non-magnified Eotech on it, he managed to get a couple 5 shot one inch groups with Winchester 5.56 and IIRC the Winchester 62 grain soft points. Everything else he shot was 1 1/4 to 1 1/2" groups. I consistently shot about .25" bigger groups than he did with like ammo, but everything was under 2" even from me.

I'm looking forward to try my new acog on it when I get it back

The only gripe about it, and the factor that finally drove me to upgrade it, is that the YHM forend had gradually rotated out of straight line with the receiver rails; I had my Eotech mounted all the way foreward on it, so that wasn't acceptable.

So, in the end I don't really regret buying the modular carbine, it was the sensible choice at the time, considering how little I knew (this was also when they first came out after the anniversary edition), but knowing what I do now, I'd have better parts put together by a dealer on these boards, or do it yourself if you're handy; but for fairly lightweight CL bbls, I'd take NewARguy's advice and go with this barrel, mine shoots quite well. It's also been a very reliable carbine.

just my humble input

[#33]
I forgot to mention the stock. I wasn't sure about it at first, but everybody else that's shot mine really liked it, and it started to really grow on me. When the AWB was cremated, I pissed on its ashes by putting the collapsible version, the ACE Socom on it!

(ok, a buddy of mine put it on for me!  )

Nice!

Is the upper a BM? I imagine that BM would open up a whole new market, if they made the LH uppers a regular production item.

Is there any other manufacturer making complete LH models, other than Stag?

Thanks!

The upper receiver & bolt/carrier assembly are actually from Stag. I sent these parts to Bushmaster and they assembled them into a complete rifle that I wanted. This is the second left handed rifle that Bushmaster has assembled for me.

At this time, STAG is the only one making a true left handed upper receiver. It's my hope and with enough interest that other manufactures will be jumping on the band wagon soon.
